Military School For Girls?
May 4th, 2010Is your daughter struggling with the consequences of bad decisions? After what can be years of therapy, counseling, soul searching, fighting, and tears a parents last resort could be to trust their daughter to an institution built on a foundation of discipline. A military school for girls could sound like the perfect solution … however it may not be in the best interest for your daughter, you as a parent, or your family.
So what is a parent to do with a wayward daughter? At what point does a parent determine they are out of options. To whom do you turn when all other options have failed? A military school for girls could be just the solution your looking for. An environment of rigged control, discipline, authority, and structure could be exactly what your daughter needs to find her way back. If a military school for girls seems a bit over the top there are also other programs available built on the same foundations but cater to a more family healing approach.
At time the role of parent can drift from friendship, love, and support … to having to make the tougher decision. This may result in being the “bad” parent … and your daughter could say some incredibly hurtful comments but only in the long run will they appreciate the difficulty of the position you are in. What is it you are ultimately looking to accomplish? Are you looking to help your daughter find their way? Or perhaps a little more melodramatic but no less truthful are you looking to save her life?
What is the best solutions for your daughter? For your family? For you? This ultimately comes down to a thorough soul searching for what each party needs. Sometimes a military school or residential program may not be the best option … sometimes there are still other choices you can make. But sometimes, after every attempt has been made and failed, a military school or teen residential program is the best choice … if not the only choice left.
The physical part of a military school for girls is just as important for your daughter’s development as the educational. These physical activities teach your daughter to control the movements of her body which is good conditioning if your daughter has a hard time controlling her anger towards others. Although a military school for girls factor many of their activities to follow military standards in their teachings and physical training, it is not the military. Military schools help girls to focus on what’s important in their lives, for example: wearing a uniform everyday takes away the peer pressure issue of “wearing what’s popular.” When some decisions are taken away from young women they have different things to think about, like “what do I want to be when I grow up,” and “how can I change the world and make it better.” Who knows, your daughter may want to continue her career with the military. There are worse choices she can make than defending her country.
However, unless you help to change her path now, you and your daughter will never know how far she could have gotten in life, if you never made the decision to send her to a military school for girls.
