Even though they have a huge range of holiday destinations within a stone’s throw, a third of Australians in fulltime employment won’t take a day’s leave this year
Australia’s largest study of annual leave accrual which was done by Tourism Australia found that nearly sixty per cent of Australians in full-time employment don’t use up their 4-week annual leave allocation.  Many of them have eight weeks or more accrued leave.
The findings also determined that Australians work the longest hours in the developed world.
When people do go on holiday, they choose a weekend escape over the traditional month-long coastal break. The tourism market has also been affected by the global financial crisis.  But while a weekend escape is seen by many as sufficient to recharge the batteries, health experts have a different view.
According to the experts, holidays are an essential component of a healthy life.Men who take annual leave reduce their overall risk of death by 20%, according to a study done by the State University of New York on a sample of over 12 000 men aged between 35 and 57.Taking an annual holiday can also reduce their risk of death from heart disease by up to 30%.
Australians shouldn’t have any excuse to avoid taking leave, given that they have so many amazing holiday destinations within easy reach.  West Australians have the attractions of the Margaret River area within a few hours’ drive, and with a diversity of quality accommodation in Margaret River to choose from, even the most jaded tourist will be energised.  Incredible beaches, natural beauty, abundant wineries and eating out choices, local attractions and child-friendly activities combined with a wide range of holiday homes in Margaret River make it a holiday destination that’s easy to reach and hard to beat.
Experts agree that regular holidays are necessary to maintain a healthy, balanced life.Researchers at the Marshfield Clinic in Wisconsin found that women who didn’t take regular holidays were two to three times more likely to be depressed than women who took regular breaks.
Aussies are really bad when it comes to missing holidays.Men between the ages of 35 and 49 working in the corporate world have accrued the most leave, with half of them having children under the age of 12.
Families need holidays, says Margaret River accommodation agency, Seaside Holiday Home Accommodation, which has over sixty hand-picked holiday homes in its portfolio.”Adults need holidays just as much as kids do, in order to bond together, communicate, relax and recharge. For a vacation that suits everyone, renting self-catering accommodation in Margaret River is one of the best ways of clearing the cobwebs, kicking back and relaxing.”
